The perfect destination to celebrate a ‘White Christmas’. We fly from South America to Antarctica in a little over two hours where we board our ship bound for the Antarctic Peninsula.

Itinerary

Met upon arrival in Ushuaia and transferred to your hotel.

Awake this morning and your eyes will be eagerly drawn to the pier where your ship will be waiting. There are many places to explore in town and maybe visit nearby Tierra del Fuego National Park. This afternoon you meet your fellow passengers and transfer to the ship for embarkation.

En route to the Falklands, the days are spent mingling with polar experts and fellow
passengers, preparing us for the journey ahead.

We explore the remote west Falkland Islands, home to stunning birdlife. Share the white sand beaches with penguins and seals and enjoy several walks to visit albatross colonies and marvel at the comical rockhopper penguins. A visit to Stanley, the quaint capital is next and as we wander through the charming streets, we sense the history and enjoy the local hospitality in one of several pubs. It really feels like you have been transported to rural Britain, with the accents, the currency, and the warm pints of beer combining to create a fascinating town in the remote South Atlantic Ocean.

Heading to South Georgia the days at sea are spent scanning the horizon for whales and seabirds and the ship-board presentations are in full swing with lectures and videos helping us to fully appreciate our journey.

Majestic snow-covered mountains greet us on arrival in South Georgia. We explore the
protected waters looking for interesting landing spots including Salisbury Plain, St Andrews Bay and Gold Harbour. These locations are home to a staggering abundance of brightly coloured king penguins. More than 100,000 birds congregate in each of these vast rookeries, covering every inch of the shore and far inland among the tussock grass. Fur seals cover the beaches, while giant petrels and majestic albatross swoop in the skies above. We plan a visit to historic whaling station of Grytviken and pay our respects at the grave of the most famous Antarctic explorer, Sir Ernest Shackleton. For many, this is the trip highlight.

Crossing the Scotia Sea we inch closer to Antarctica, skirting the South Orkney Islands. We soon start to encounter our first large icebergs – announcing our arrival to Antarctica.

We pass by Elephant Island, where Shackleton us and his men sought refuge in 1916. Our days are spent cruising among the South Shetland Islands just off the Antarctic Peninsula. Dazzling stroll by, leopard seals stealthily cruise the waters looking for a meal, icebergs surround and whales surface in close proximity.

wildlife sightings await us on our excursions We reluctantly leave this wonderland and make and we hope to see the gentle humpback our way towards South America. We chart a whale. After much anticipation, we arrive at course for the fabled landmark of Cape Horn, the Antarctic mainland in Paradise Harbour or respected by sailors throughout the ages. As nearby Wilhelmina Bay. Snow covered peaks we join in a celebratory Captain’s dinner we and heavily glaciated landscapes are all around will happily spend the evening reflecting on the us now and we explore the calm waters by fabulous experience we have shared.
Zodiac boats, enjoying several shore excursions
each day. Take a front row seat and marvel at some of Mother Nature’s finest work.

Disembark and transfer to the airport.
