APART FROM THE PERENNIALLY POPULAR STATE OF RAJASTHAN, THERE ARE MANY OTHER FASCINATING REGIONS TO EXPLORE.

Uttar Pradesh, in particular, boasts a number of important sites including Agra and the holy city of Varanasi (Benares). In between, in Madya Pradesh, the Chandela dynasty chose the small village Khajuraho as the site for a temple complex that has no parallel. Of the 85 sanctuaries built between 950 and 1050AD, just 22 survive.

The food of the north is very distinctive, with both vegetarian and ‘non-veg’ choices. Popular dishes include samosas, biryani, korma, kofta, as well as many types of gram (dhal) and breads.

Itinerary

Welcome at Delhi Airport for hotel
transfer then head out exploring.

Explore Old and New Delhi, visiting
the Jama Masjid, Chandni Chowk, the Qutb
Minar and Gurudwara Bangla Sahib – the
largest Sikh Temple in Delhi. You’ll also see
the India Gate, Parliament Buildings and the
President’s House. (B)

Drive to Jaipur, arriving in the late
afternoon. Jaipur is an exuberance of colour,
dance and traditional arts and crafts. Known,
as the ‘Pink City’, Jaipur is home to ancient
forts and palaces. This evening enjoy a stroll
through the night bazaars. (B)

Visit the colourful flower and vegetable
markets. Later explore the fabulous Amber
Fort and in the afternoon see the Hawa
Mahal, visit the City Palace Museum and the
18th century Jantar Mantar observatory. (B)

Drive east to Akbar’s deserted capital
at Fatehpur Sikri, and continue to Agra for the
night. Subject to timing you could visit the Taj
Mahal to let the gentle light of the afternoon
sun introduce you this iconic site.(B)

This morning witness the surreal views
of the Taj Mahal over sunrise. Step inside this
eternal symbol of love and appreciate the
intricate designs and symmetries that rhyme
as a poem written in marble. In the afternoon
head over to the nearby Fort, with glorious
views over the River Yamuna. (B)

Take the short train ride to Jhansi
and then continue by road to Orchha, a
picturesque, medieval riverside town known
for its palaces and temples. Visit the popular
Ram Raja Temple and gather in the central
courtyard to chant with the locals amidst loud
ringing bells, and witness the unique guard of
honour to the Gods by the local police. (B)

Drive to the world heritage site of
Khajuraho and visit the enchanting temples
of Khajuraho built between AD950 and 1050,
with sculptures inspired by the Kama sutra.

Morning at leisure, and in the afternoon fly to Varanasi. (B)

Enjoy a sunrise boat ride on the
Ganges, to see the ‘bathing ghats’ where
pilgrims immerse themselves in the holy
water of River Ganges, and the ‘burning
ghats’ where cremations are conducted. The
ghats here are believed to be most sacred,
engulfing the entire circle of life and death.
Take a walking tour of the old city and in the
afternoon visit Sarnath, where Buddha gave
his first sermon. Evening rickshaw ride to
watch the sunset Aarti ceremony. (B)

Fly back to Delhi where your tour
