Itinerary

Welcome at Kochi airport and
transfer to your hotel. Free time to explore
this historic city.

The historic town of Fort Kochi has
long been an important trading port. Enjoy a
guided walk of the old centre today, visiting
the Dutch Palace, Jewish Synagogue and
St. Francis’s Church. You’ll also see the
iconic Chinese fishing nets. Tonight, enjoy
a Kathakali performance, one of the oldest
forms of theatre in India. (B)

A scenic drive brings you to the hill
station of Munnar, Known by the British as
the ‘Switzerland of India, due to its alpine
landscape and cool climate. This afternoon
you can relax at your hotel or take an
optional hike into the surrounding hills. (B)

This morning visit a tea plantation
and at the excellent Tata Tea Museum learn
about the cultivation and processing of
different grades of tea. Later, at an excellent
local welfare initiative, learn about dye
printing and handmade paper production.

Drive south to Periyar, the spice
hub of Kerala. In the afternoon enjoy
a fascinating tour of a nearby spice
plantation, learning about the cultivation of
cloves, pepper, cardamom, ginger – and
more – and their uses. (B)

Embark on a short drive to Kanam
Estate, your home for 2 nights, staying
in a century old bungalow aptly named
‘Serenity’. Serenity is the perfect hideout to
soak in the charm of Kerala and experience
life at a true Keralan bungalow. (B)

Join the estate manager for a walk
around the plantation, and you can also
explore the village school and temple. Try
your hand at bathing the resident elephant,
experience an Ayurvedic massage or relax
in the infinity pool, a welcome modern touch
to this historic bungalow. (B)

Drive to Kumarakom, the coastal
town in Kerala’s backwaters, where you
board your houseboat for a memorable
overnight cruise. During the afternoon,
witness life on the labyrinth of canals as
locals tend to their paddy fields or harvest
nearby coconut groves. (BLD)

Take a short drive to Marari, a fishing
village where you can wander around the
village to watch the local life and the native
fishermen at sea. Ask the driver to take you
to the Temple of 9 planets, where the priest
conducts blessing ceremonies with fire and
chanting to worship the 9 planets for you.

Drive back to Kochi, where you are
transferred to the airport for your onward
