Itinerary

Pick up your car at the airport or the city office and then enjoy an attractive and short drive to Punta Arenas, one of the southernmost cities of Chile.

This picturesque city boasts beautiful Patagonian landscapes and Chilean charm. Once there, take your time to enjoy your surroundings and explore the wonders Punta Arenas has to offer.

Overnight in Punta Arenas. (B)

On this 4 to 6 hour drive to Torres del Paine, you can visit the Mylodon Cave, where scientists discovered the remains of a gigantic sloth.

Overnight in or close to Torres del Paine National Park. (B)

You will start early to make the most of this day. Visit some of the various sites within the park, navigate to the Grey Glacier or trek on one of the shorter trails to experience this magnificent landscape close-up.

You will leave the beautiful view of the Torres del Paine National Park and drive into Argentina via Cerro Castillo through the vast pampa along Route 40.

Overnight in El Calafate. (B)

Driving along the lovely Argentino Lake you will explore one of the most beautiful parks of Argentina; Los Glaciares National Park.

Visit the magnificent Perito Moreno Glacier, a true natural spectacle. A trek on the icy glacier can also be organized.

You will drive around the Argentino Lake today and head north to reach another beautiful huge glacier lake known as Viedma Lake.

Upon your arrival to El Chaltén, situated at the foot of the Andes Mountain Range, you will be amazed by the views of the Fitz Roy Massif and the Cerro Torre.

Overnight in El Chalten. (B)

Participate today in one of the hikes that start from El Chaltén to visit the impressive Fitz Roy Massive in the Los Glaciares National Park. You can also join a boat trip to the Viedma Glacier in the morning.

Today, you will explore Route 40, commonly known as the Patagonian Highway, to reach the Argentinean farmlands. On your way, you will pass near the Cardiel and Strobel lakes which boast beautiful colours and landscapes.

Overnight at a local ranch. (B)

After breakfast, you will start to drive towards the picturesque town of Bajo Caracoles and continue north.

Along the way you will visit the small town of Perito Moreno and subsequently you will reach the magnificent General Carrera Lake. The views of the lake are beautiful, but the road has many curves, so drive carefully.

Today you will explore the surroundings of this beautiful lake. The weather in this area of Chile and Argentina is generally cold and humid. But the lake itself has a sunny microclimate, a weather pattern enjoyed by the few settlements along the lake, such as Puerto Guadal, Puerto Ingeniero Ibáñez and Chile Chico.

Overnight near the General Carrera Lake. (B)

A beautiful but long drive will call for an early departure. Your trip today will take you from the immense General Carrera Lake to the city of Coyhaique.

Stop for magnificent views from the various lookout points along a lengthy and virtually uninhabited stretch of the Carretera Austral. Make sure you don’t miss a visit to the Marble Caves close to Puerto Tranquilo.

You will spend the night in Coyhaique. (B)

Right after leaving Coyhaique, you will pass through the Simpson National Reserve. From there the road will take you to Cuesta Queulat, which offers spectacular views of the forests and valleys. Before arriving to El Pangue, you will drive through the Queulat National Park.

Visit the village of Puyuhuapi with and its local charm. You can also spend time hiking in the Queulat National Park to observe the Hanging Glacier.

Today you will depart from El Pangue and head north following the famous Carretera Austral. If you wish, you can visit some of the different national parks and reserves along the way before reaching your final destination in the impressive Pumalín Park.

Overnight in Caleta Gonzalo. (B)

Today you will have some spare time to discover the primitive forests of the Pumalín Park; one of Chile’s main ecotourism attractions.

We recommend a hike to one of the various lookout points that boast breathtaking views.

After breakfast, you will board a ferry that will take you to Largo Fiord. After a brief drive, you will take a second ferry along the Cholgo Channel and the Comau Fjord to reach Hornopirén.

Overnight in Hornopirén. (B)

After breakfast you will hit the road to continue on your journey. On your way you will be able to choose between driving along the coast of the stunning Reloncaví Sound or an alternative road passing different towns and forests.

Overnight in Petrohué. (B)

You will have an entire day to explore the Vicente Pérez Rosales National Park or enjoy a variety of outdoor activities organized by your hotel such as rafting, kayaking, trekking or fishing (Not included). (B, D)

Your long Patagonian adventure ends in Puerto Montt, where you will return your car at the airport or the downtown rental car office. (B)
