Itinerary

Arrive in Delhi and transfer to your hotel.  The rest of the day is at leisure.

Explore Old and New Delhi, including the Jama Masjid, Chandni Chowk, Qutb Minar and the largest Sikh Temple in Delhi.

Later see the India Gate, Parliament Buildings and the President’s House. (B)

Fly to Srinagar. In the afternoon tour the old city and Mughal Gardens including the celebrated Nishat Bagh and Shalimar Bagh. In the evening cruise the still waters of Lake Dal in a traditional shikara. (B)

Day tour to Gulmarg, one of the most beautiful towns in the valley. (B)

Drive to Pahalgam, another pretty town and a popular spot at the confluence of two wooded valleys. Visit Chandanwari, the starting point for the annual pilgrimage to Amarnath Cave. (B)

The morning is free to explore Pahalgam.

Later, return to Srinagar for the night. (B)

A spectacular drive through alpine meadows takes you over the 3500m Zoji La Pass to Kargil in Ladakh. Once here, the rest of the day is at leisure to acclimatise. (B)

A long day’s drive takes you up over the 4000-metre Fatu La Pass to the incredible Lamayuru Monastery, one of the oldest in Ladakh, which houses around 150 monks.

Continue to Rizong Gompa and arrive in Leh in the late afternoon. (B)

Visit Shey Monastery, 15kms south of Leh and a Royal Residence until the 16th century.

In the afternoon drive to Hemis, the richest of Ladakh’s monasteries, built in 1630.

Return to Leh for the night. (B)

A stunning drive over Chang La Pass (5360m) brings you to the extraordinary Pangong Lake, one of the most serene spots on the subcontinent.

There’s time to relax and explore before spending the night here. (B)

Drive back to Leh, where the rest of the day is at leisure. (B)

Drive via Khardung La Pass (5600m), along the highest motorable road in the world, to Nubra, an extraordinary high-altitude cold desert region.

On arrival visit Diskit village and then continue to Hunder. Between the two are several kilometres of sand dunes, where you can take a ride on double-humped Bactrian camel. (B)

Return to Leh, where your final afternoon is at leisure to browse the markets. (B)

Fly back to Delhi Airport, where your tour ends. (B)
