Itinerary

Today depart from either Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, *Adelaide or *Perth for Taipei.

Please note: Some departures may require an overnight in mainland China on the way over and complimentary overnight accommodation and airport transfers will be provided by the airline.

Upon arrival, meet the tour representative and transfer to the hotel. In the afternoon you will have leisure time to explore the vibrant city of Taipei. Taipei is a tough little city with beauty found in its blend of Chinese culture and a curious fusion of Japanese, Southeast Asian and American influences. Taipei is also a shopaholic’s heaven. You can find all sorts of bargains from world famous brands at one shopping district.

After breakfast drive to Sun Moon Lake, where the east side is shaped like a “sun”, and the west side is shaped like a “moon” – hence the name. Sightseeing around the area includes the famous Wen Wu Temple, Holy Monk Shrine, Peacock Garden, and Literature Warrior Temple, dedicated to Confucius as Master of Pen and to Kuan Ti as Master of Sword.

After touring around Sun Moon Lake, enjoy a delicious local lunch at the Taiwanese Gourmet Restaurant. After lunch, depart for Nine Aboriginal Tribes Culture Village to see the beautiful gardens and shows of the theme park. Experience Sun Moon Lake Sky Ropeway (1878m length) and take in the beautiful panoramic view of the lake along the way. Tonight you will stay in Chiayi City, a provincial city located in the plains of southwestern Taiwan.

This morning, drive to Alishan (Ali Mountain), located at the end of the Alishan Forest Railway. Weather permitting, you will be able to see the sunrise on Jhushan (Bamboo Mountain) after an early morning walk through spectacular valleys and trails. Sightseeing around the Alishan National Scenic Area includes Sister Lake, Zhaoping Park, Sochun Temple, Old Alishan Tree Site, Eternity Bridge, Alishan High Mountain Tea Farm, just to name a few.

After experiencing Alishan, you will drive to Kaohsiung City and enjoy a city tour. See the largest industrial harbour in Taiwan – Kaohsiung Harbour. Visit Sizihwan, the former British Consulate overlooking the Kaohsiung Harbour. In the evening, you will visit the Liuhe Night Market, to taste Taiwanese local food (not included). You will visit the famous Love River, a popular couples destination known for its café culture.

After breakfast, depart Kaohsiung for an exciting journey towards the east side of Taiwan. Enjoy a visit to Kenting National Park, undoubtedly one of the most beautiful natural forests in Taiwan. It is located in the south, with popular surfing beaches bordered by banana and sugar cane plantations. Other sightseeing includes the southernmost tip of Taiwan, Maopitou, named after the shape of cat-noselike rock, and Sail Rock.

In the afternoon visit the Eluanbi Light House, the world’s first military equipped light house. Tonight you will stay in Taitung City on the east coast of Taiwan.

Experience the highlights of the East Coast. Known as ‘Taiwan’s last unspoiled land’, the East Coast National Scenic Area stretches for 170km. Weather and erosion have produced a wide range of landmarks here. Drive north via Siaoyeliou, Dulan, Tunghe Bridge (where you may see wild monkeys), and Sanxiantai. Sanxiantai is reached by crossing the appropriatelynamed Eight Arch Bridge.

The island of Sanxiantai (which translates to Three Immortals Terrace) has three large rock formations and, legend says, was visited by three of the eight Immortals from Chinese mythology. Upon arrival into, Hualien City, the second largest city in the east coast, the rest of the day is at your leisure to relax or explore.

Following breakfast, visit Taroko National Park. With its gorges, lush flora and mountainous landscape, Taroko is one of Taiwan’s most stunning locations. Taroko Gorge is an exceptionally beautiful, narrow ravine created by the Liwu River, which has cut deep into the mountains of solid marble. The road is carved into the sheer rock walls winding past forested peaks and cliffs towering thousands of feet above, while a river roars past gigantic marble boulders hundreds of feet below. Stops will be made at Swallow Grotto, Changchun Temple, and Shakadang Trail.

You will travel back to Taipei with a stop at Qingshui Cliff, and pass through Syue-Shan Long Tunnel (12.9 kms). Tonight you will be driven around to witness the vibrant sights and nightlife of Taipei, e.g. Taipei 101 Building and the Night Markets.

Enjoy a morning tour of Taipei. First drive by the Presidential Building. This renaissance-style building has been the highest seat of government in Taiwan for over a century, first as the office of the governor general’s office during the Japanese colonial period, and after 1949 as Taiwan’s ‘White House’. Next visit Chiang Kai-Shek Memorial Hall, which towers over 25 hectares of landscaped gardens, graceful pavilions, and ponds in downtown Taipei.

The tour then continues to the National Palace Museum, which houses the world’s largest and most valuable collection of Chinese art treasures. The collection is so large it cannot be displayed all at once. While many popular pieces remain on permanent display, other items are rotated regularly, making for a unique visit each time.

After breakfast bid farewell to Taiwan and transfer to the airport for your flight to Hong Kong. Upon arrival into Hong Kong, make your own way to your hotel accommodation.

Enjoy the sensational sights, shopping, and food of this colourful city! Further afield you could visit the tourist town of Stanley, or ride a gondola to view the giant buddha at Ngong Ping 360.
