Itinerary

Welcome at Delhi airport and transfer to your hotel. Rest of day at leisure.

Start early to board train to Amritsar. After checking into hotel at Amritsar, visit the Golden Temple – the lifeline of Amritsar.

Watch the afternoon sun’s rays bounce upon the Golden façade to reflect in the waters of the Holy Tank. People of all religions are welcome here. You can also visit the Golden temple in the late evening to see the closing ceremony.

After breakfast depart Amritsar by car/ van for Dharamsala en route stop to visit Masroor Rock cu temples. Rock cut temples.

Explore the complex with its monolithic rock-cut temples depicting vivid images of Hindu Gods Rama, Shiva, Lakshman and Sita. Proceed to Dharamsala where your stay has been arranged at McLeod Ganj.

This day is dedicated to tour charming McLeod Ganj – explore this Tibetan town’s library, temples and markets. Visit the Dip Tscechokling Gompa and the St. John’s Church before returning to hotel.

We depart for Palampur today and stop on the way to visit the Norbulingka Institute. This establishment was founded to preserve Tibetan culture in its literary and artistic forms.

Proceed from here to Palampur’s scenic town and check in at Mirage Home.

Sit back and enjoy a scenic drive to Manali, a popular town in Himachal Pradesh. Watch the bustle of this tourist town as you settle in your hotel.

In the afternoon, visit the Hadimba Temple and Naggar Castle of Manali.

Start early for a long drive to Sarchu filled with interesting landmarks. Drive through the Rohtang Pass and reach the peak at Baralacha La, passing through 21 loops. This top is where roads from Zanskar, Ladakh, Spiti and Lahoul converge. Proceed through a vast valley to reach your tented camp at Sarchu.

After soaking up the beauty of Sarchu, proceed to Leh with yet another long drive filled with panoramic views. Cross the Zanskar range and go through the Lungacha La and Tanglang La passes to reach your hotel in Leh.

Rest at your hotel in Leh to get accustomed to the high altitude.

Guided excursion tour to Hemis, Traktok and Stok Palace. First, visit Hemis, the largest and richest monastery of Ladakh, then proceed to Traktok Gompa which is built around a cave, and has on display exquisite frescoes and woven rugs.

Drive across River Indus to visit the Stok Palace – the Palace of the banished royal family. Bring back history through the exhibits here of objects from long, long ago.

Watch dawn break over the Thikse Monastery as you assemble here to see the monks conduct a fascinating morning Puja with drums and gongs. From here, walk to Shey Village and Gompa to visit the Palace complex of this erstwhile capital town before returning to Leh.

Later, walk to the Leh Palace and proceed to see the Shanti Stupa on a hillock. Later, watch traditionally attired locals sell fresh vegetables – considered a luxury in cold Leh, in the colourful market that lines the towering Leh Palace.

Bid adieu to Leh’s colourful streets to proceed to Alchi, stopping on the way to see Phyang and Likir Monasteries. A short drive from Leh, the 17th Century Phyang Monastery belongs to the Red Cap sect of Buddhists and hosts a well-attended festival every July. Drive on to stop just before Nimo to watch the amber Indus river and azure Zanskar meet. At Likir, see the 9-storey tall statue of Maitraya Buddha and splendid murals and paintings before you recommence journey to Alchi.

Take an excursion to the Lamayuru Monastery, which was once a revered seat of learning for Lamaistic monks; pass through mountainous terrains portraying a different kind of scenery than the rest of Leh.

Next, take a diversion at Leh-Srinagar Highway to visit the Monastery of Rizong which houses the nunnery of Zulichen before returning to Alchi.

Tour the Alchi Monastery with its massive Buddha statue and 1000-year-old paintings. Then, travel to Leh, visiting Spituk Gompa entoure. Offering dazzling views of the Indus valley from its position atop a hillock, the Spituk Gompa has an interesting collection of ancient masks and antiques. Also visit the Mahakal Temple a bit further up the hill before proceeding to Leh.

In time transfer to airport to board flight for Delhi. After checking in, embark on a half-day sightseeing tour of Delhi to see the best of the old Delhi. Drive past Red Fort, visit Jama Masjid, zigzag through the busy Chandni Chowk market in a cycle rickshaw and visit Raj Ghat, the memorial site of Mahatma Gandhi.

Morning at leisure. Check out of hotel and set out on a half-day tour of New Delhi. Visit the Qutab Minar and mausoleum of Humayun, drive past India Gate and neighbouring President’s residence and Secretariat buildings before returning to hotel for dinner. Transfer to airport to board international departure flight.
